Description
This action arises from an automobile accident. Causes of action stated are for wrongful death and personal injuries. The
liability of the parties is not challenged on this appeal. The issues relate to the jury awards in several of the questions
on damages. On June 15, 1968, at about 8:30 a. m., the plaintiff, Julia A. Redepenning, was driving a late model Chevrolet toward Madison
from Cottage Grove on a county trunk highway. Her seventeen-year-old daughter, Diane, was a passenger. They were on their
way to keep an appointment with a hairdresser in preparation for a noon wedding of another Redepenning daughter. The defendant,
John Henry Dore, Jr., an employee of the Dane County Farmers Union Co-op, was driving a pickup truck and towing a farm fertilizer-type
trailer on the same highway but in the opposite direction. As the two vehicles approached, Dore turned left and the collision
ensued. Both Mrs. Redepenning (Julia) and her daughter Diane were severely injured 1 and both rendered unconscious. Diane
died two days later without regaining consciousness.
